COURSE DESCRIPTION
As lasers are becoming a common therapeutic device used in dental settings, hygienists are looking for training and education on the safe and effective use of lasers.
This in-person course, combined with an online course,e is designed to provide the clinician with the education and confidence to implement laser technology into protocols. From this course, attendees will learn laser physics, tissue interactions, soft tissue procedures, suggested settings, documentation, codes, verbiage, research, techniques, and tips to achieve safe and effective treatment and results for patients. The hands-on training will allow the attendees the opportunity to demonstrate the use of lasers in several procedures. Laser Bacterial Reduction, Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy, hemostasis, desensitizing, treatment of oral lesions, and photobiomodulation will be performed on porcine jaws. Videos and case studies will support the course.

The Standard Level Course forms the base credential for progressing to the Fellowship and Mastership Certification Programs, and successful candidates may immediately apply for the Fellowship Program (details coming soon!). To successfully complete the ALD Dental Laser Standard Level Course in its entirety, all 3 Parts must be completed within 90 days of the Part 2 hands-on course date. After 90 days, the course will be closed, and anyone who has successfully completed it will receive their continuing education record of completion and Standard Level Course certificate within 6-8 weeks from the close date.

Laura Braswell, D.D.S., attended East Carolina University and graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1982. After practicing general dentistry in Raleigh, North Carolina, she joined the faculty of the Emory University School of Dentistry and completed a four-year surgical residency in Periodontology. She spent 17 years at Emory as a clinical instructor and research scientist. Dr. Braswell is a periodontist with Dental Specialists of Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia. She was on faculty at the Emory University School of Dentistry and currently teaches in the periodontal residency program at The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University.
Dr. Braswell has been honored with a fellowship in the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. She is a diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology and a Charter Member, board member, and Master with Educator status in the American Academy of Laser Dentistry, reflecting her passion for the use of lasers in Periodontology. Dr. Braswell is an Honorary Fellow of the American Academy of Veterinary Dentistry and the American Veterinary Dental Society and serves as the staff dentist for Zoo Atlanta, the Georgia Aquarium, and several non-human primate facilities.
